More and more treatment options are now available aimed at improving vaginal well-being.
Concerns about the female intimate area are on the rise, and women need no longer suffer in silence with concerns such as vaginal laxity or atrophy, vaginal dryness, painful sexual intercourse (dyspareunia) or stress urinary incontinence (SUI), which can all be addressed using the CO2RE® Intima treatment.
All these dysfunctional conditions are unwanted side effects following childbirth or the ageing process, including hormonal changes and the menopause which can cause thinning of the vaginal walls, leading to dryness, irritation, discomfort, and urinary tract infections.
Constant concerns about the health of the vagina can often result in a lack of confidence, particularly in sexual situations and lead to low self-esteem. Suffering leakage of urine due to SUI can also lead to social isolation.
For women seeking a solution to improve their confidence, improve their sexual satisfaction and achieve a more youthful vagina then many of the treatments in The O Concept™ can help.
The CO2RE® Intima device uses a fractional CO2 or carbon dioxide laser to achieve internal vaginal tightening and tissue rejuvenation. The device can also be targeted to the external structures of the vaginal lips or labia to rejuvenate skin laxity.
CO2RE Intima is part of the options available with The O Concept™ of treatments available in clinic. The O Concept™ is a specialised combination of sexual aesthetic treatments brought together to treat female sexual dysfunction. It was devised by Dr Sherif Wakil, a pioneer of excellence in sexual aesthetics, as a bespoke, tailor-made rejuvenation solution.
The CO2 laser energy within the CO2RE Intima is delivered to the internal vaginal canal using a specially-shaped, single-use handpiece or probe. This produces a controlled heating, coagulation and contraction in the tissue whilst also stimulating the body’s natural healing response to produce new collagen and elastin cells within the mucosal skin inside the vaginal walls. The act of this targeted and fractional damage brings improved blood flow to the area to tighten and rejuvenate both functional issues and cosmetic appearance.
CO2RE is FDA cleared in the USA to treat many dermatology conditions including aesthetic and gynaecology concerns and conditions. The fractional nature of the device means that small, pixel-sized points of laser damage are made in the tissue, leaving healthy skin around each spot to induce the healing process. This is a much safer and effective method of rejuvenation than fully resurfacing tissue. The complexities of the CO2 laser specifications make it different to other carbon dioxide lasers on the market meaning that it can be used to treat both superficial and deep skin layers at the same time, depending on the levels of tissue tightening required.
It can also be used to target pigmentation and laxity concerns on the labia majora on the outside of the vulva, using a different handpiece.
Your suitability for CO2RE Intima laser vaginal rejuvenation will be assessed during a consultation with our doctor. A physical examination will be required, and your full medical and sexual history will be discussed.
Each woman’s vaginal concerns are different, so a unique treatment combination will be tailored to suit you as part of The O Concept™ treatment programme and our doctor will be able to decide if CO2RE is an effective treatment option to rejuvenate your vagina and rebuild your sexual well-being.
You will be required to come for the consultation and treatment at a point in your menstrual cycle when you are not bleeding.
If you are generally in good health there should be few reasons why you would not be suitable for treatment.
Women who are pregnant or breast feeding are not suitable for treatment.
CO2 laser vaginal rejuvenation is a well-tolerated treatment with most women finding it virtually painless, with only mild discomfort felt. The settings on the device can be adjusted to suit each person and their tolerance, whilst also achieving an optimal result. More treatment sessions may be required if you need lower laser settings. Anaesthesia is not usually required.
Each treatment session takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes to treatment both the internal and external areas of the vagina.
A treatment programme is recommended for the best results, which is performed in three sessions spaced one month apart.
There is little downtime associated with the CO2RE Intima treatment and you can usually return to your normal activities and exercise regime immediately after the procedure, should you feel comfortable.
You are advised to avoid sexual activity for 7 days following each treatment session.
Expect some tenderness, mild discomfort and swelling for 24-72 hours after each treatment session. Any pain can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication such as paracetamol.
An immediate improvement in tissue tightness will be noticeable after the first CO2RE Intima treatment session. This is due to the delivery of the laser energy which causes contraction in the vaginal mucosal tissue. As this treatment stimulates the production of new collagen over time, and increases with subsequent treatment sessions, results will improve over the following months after each treatment. The body will continue to remodel and repair the targeted areas leading to improvements in tissue tightness, volume and strength. Patients report increased sexual satisfaction, improvements in vaginal lubrication and a decrease in the symptoms of stress urinary incontinence.
Results from a hospital-based clinical trial using CO2RE Intima for vaginal rejuvenation on premenopausal women showed positive results and high patient satisfaction for the cosmetic improvement of their vaginas, alongside the enhancement of sexual function.
You will be recommended to have a maintenance treatment on an annual basis to retain the optimal result.
