Lip enhancement using dermal fillers can both rejuvenate lips that are displaying the signs of ageing as well as enhancing lips that are naturally thin. Lip fillers can also be used to correct asymmetries whereby either the upper or lower lip seems thinner or smaller in comparison to the other lip.
The fashion for a plump pout means that dermal fillers can also be used to augment the lip to create a more voluptuous look.

Many women, and men, become unhappy with the size and shape of their lips, especially with the effects of ageing.
As we get older, our lips can start to thin and lose the luscious or kissable pout we once enjoyed. Sometime lip thinning happens more to one lip then the other, so the mouth can look off balance, both at rest and upon smiling. For some, they have always had thin lips and have always tried to enhance them with make-up or micropigmentation to create an illusion of bigger lips. All of these are reasons why you may wish to turn to dermal fillers for lip enhancement.
At Dr SW Clinics we use hyaluronic acid (HA) based dermal filler products when we carry out lip enhancement treatments. The temporary nature of these fillers makes them safe, reversable and reliable for this kind of treatment.
We also believe in delivering natural looking results so the amount of volume or filler product we use can be tailored to your individual needs.
Lip enhancement can not only add volume but can add definition and shape to the lips, including the vermillion border and the cupid’s bow, plus improve lip plumpness and diminish fine lines around the lip area. In skilled hands, dermal fillers can also be used to turn the corners of the mouth upwards, so if you think you are starting to get a grumpy-looking mouth, or the start of marionette lines, then this treatment can help with that as well as plumping up the thinness of your lips.
At Dr SW Clinics, we use dermal filler products made from hyaluronic acid (HA) which are in the form of a thick gel ready for injection. The filler is injected into the lip border and body of the lips to contour them and add volume. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body and is highly biocompatible. It naturally attracts water, so producing a plumping effect in the lips which will give you the pout you desire. HA fillers are also biodegradable which means the product is naturally absorbed by the body over time. We do not use permanent lip filler products in our clinic.
If you have naturally thin lips or your lips have lost their shape and fullness over time, then lip enhancement using dermal fillers may be right for you.
As with all treatments, you will need to come in for a consultation with our doctor to determine your suitability for treatment. During the consultation, a full medical history will be taken to make sure that they are no health reasons or medications which make you unsuitable.
If you have an active infection in the area to be treated, such as herpes simplex (cold sores), or are prone to them, then we will need to treat that or prevent it before you can have lip enhancement treatment.
If you have a known allergy or sensitivity to hyaluronic acid, you will not be suitable for treatments. Similarly, if you are pregnant or breast feeding, you will also not be able to have lip filler treatment.
The lip area can be sensitive so injections can be a little uncomfortable, however we use a local anaesthetic to minimise any pain and make the treatment as comfortable as possible. Many of the dermal filler products that we use also come with lidocaine already mixed into the syringe with the hyaluronic acid to aid comfort during treatment.
Lip filler treatment is non-invasive and does not involve any real recovery time. Very rarely you can get a small bruise at the injection site, which will usually disappear in a few days. The most common side effects from lip enhancement is swelling of the lips which varies in severity, but which will reduce after 24-72 hours. We advise that you have your lip filler treatment a week before any major social event to allow time for the lips to settle.
